Overcoming The Roadblock To Progress In Your Career
Stop Getting Held Back And Break Free From Your Chains
Many people have the Goal to Progress in their Life.
In one way or another.
But there is something that frequently becomes a problem for people.
They get Stuck.
They want to Progress.
But Always seem to be Chained to where they are.
They try to take a Step Forward.
Then they get Yanked Backward.
The Desire is to Move Forward.
The Hope is there.
The Drive Exists.
But it Seems the Results are Lacking.
Why does this happen?
How is it that we get Stuck when it Seems Like Everything that "Should" be there is?
What is Holding Us Back?
The First Roadblock
There is a Phrase that we Must Understand to See the Challenge...
What Got You Here Will Not Get You There.
Within your Career, you'll discover that there are Different Stages that Exist.
At nearly Every Stage that Exists, you'll Discover that What Makes you Successful in One Stage is actually Extremely Detrimental in other Stages.
There are a Few Classic Examples that Exist within this.
Example: The Leader Change
For instance, there is the Employee to Leader Change.
What makes an Employee Successful is Doing the Work Yourself to High-Quality Levels.
However, the Further You Move Up in Leadership, the Less You "Do" and the More You Must "Coordinate" Others to "Do".
If You are Doing the Ground-Level Work as a High-Level Leader, it means Someone Else is Not Doing their Work, and You are Taken Away from the Larger Project of Guiding the Organization into the Future.
There are Caveats that exist within this of course, such as how the Leader "Must" still "Understand" the Realities that Employees are going through, from "Their" Perspective.
This Requires Emotional Intelligence (EQ/EI) which Leaders Must "Also" Develop.
But the point I'm making is that the "How" to be a Great Employee is Different from the "How" to be a Great Leader.
Example: The Entrepreneur Change
We also See something similar when People become Entrepreneurs.
One of the Largest Challenges that Entrepreneurs Face early in their Careers is that they go from having "Others" tell them what to do, or Following Orders, and they must Transition to Creating Orders.
As an Entrepreneur, No One Will Tell You what to Do.
At Best, You can find a Coach to "Help" You Make Wise Decisions, but at the end of the day the Entrepreneur "Must" Make the Calls themselves.
Regardless of "How" You Move in Your Career, the Reality is that You Will Face a Version of this in Your Career.
Period.
What Can Change
Skills will Change.
Attitudes will Change.
Perspectives will Change.
Focus will Change.
There will be times when you will have to make Tough Decisions.
Next Steps
If you Discover that You're Stuck in Your Career...
Stop.
Consider what May Be Holding You Back.
Look at What is Required at the Higher Levels.
Then...
This becomes the Key...
Do It.
Another thing that Prevents People from Moving Forward in their Careers is that they "Can" Do the Work Required...
But Others Simply Do Not Know.
Often, this becomes a Very Problematic Situation with a Simple Solution.
It plays out something like this, regardless of whether you are an Employee, Leader, or Entrepreneur...
The Common Scenario
You "Know" that You Could Do The Work.
You Feel Angry When "You" Get Overlooked, Knowing You're More than Qualified.
However, Others Have Not "Seen" Those Skills You Know You Have.
They are "Specifically" Looking for those Skills.
You Also Have Not Made Your Desire Known, or at least Easily Visible.
Usually, there is a Line that Plays through Our Minds that Says, "They Should 'Know' I'm the Right Person!"
They Do Not Realize It, because We are "All" Human, and Usually as Humans we are Simply Focused on "Our" Problems.
Since they are Looking to Solve "Their" Problem, and Have Not "Seen" You be able to Accomplish the Work Required to Solve said Problem...
"They" Overlook You.
Whether "They" are Other Leaders.
"They" are Potential Clients.
"They" are a Board of Directors.
It plays out similarly to this.
The Solution
Which makes the Solution Simple.
Get Seen!
Get Heard!
Assume that "They" Do Not Know!
Then, Make Sure They Know!
Prove to "Them" You "Can" Do the Work!
Be So Loud (Metaphorically) that They Can Not Miss You!
It Is Time to Break Those Chains and Progress In Your Career!
