The Work Is Not Done Which Means We Must Keep Going
Adding Another Perspective On Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day
“If you can’t fly — then run. If you can’t run — then walk. If you can’t walk — then crawl. But whatever you do, you have to keep moving forward.”
-Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
What does it take to make a Dream come True?
It is a Question that Pierces our Minds.
In so many ways.
Through so many possibilities.
Today in the States, we Focus on the Dream of One Man who Spoke for the Dreams of Many.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Recently I have heard an Outcry from many People.
They say that Progress has been Lost.
That the US is Moving Backward.
That Justice is Not Being Served.
In Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have A Dream" Speech, he provides us with this Reminder...
"But we refuse to believe that the bank of justice is bankrupt."
-Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
It may be True that Justice is Not Being Served in Today's World.
It is True on Many Fronts that most people Do Not Realize.
Our Lives are Filled with Injustices Today.
This is what I Know about Injustice.
We will Not Escape them Completely.
We will be Slammed to the Ground.
Broken.
Chained.
Physically, Yes.
But so too Emotionally, Addictively, Mentally, and Spiritually.
Some of the Chains are Racial, Yes.
But when I look at the Human Race, I see More Chains than this.
Chains that have been Placed Around our Throats without us Knowing.
It is Frustrating.
Infuriating.
It Fuels us with Rage and Fury and Hatred.
Yet...
We must be Wary of our Responses to these Emotions.
King has More Wise Words to Provide for these Feelings.
"In the process of gaining our rightful place, we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds."
-Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Two Wrongs Do Not Make a Right.
Dealing Hatred with Hatred Creates More Hatred.
It Creates a Vicious Cycle that Only Worsens Outcomes.
When we Attack, we Create Enemies.
Enemies that Continue to Fight on a Slippery Hill where No One Wins.
So, what is the Path We Must Follow?
"Now is the time to lift our nation from the quick sands of racial injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood."
-Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
The Solid Rock of Brotherhood, or we can say Siblinghood.
We Fail when we Create Enemies.
We Grow when we Create Siblings.
When we Recognize the Pain and Challenges that Others Face.
We Will Not Always Agree, But All Siblings Disagree at times.
Disagreement is Not the Problem.
Failing to Reconcile Is.
Coming Back to Love is the Key.
Of Mutual Respect.
Finding the Good in Others and Helping them Toward that Good.
We Must Find the Truth.
We are Interdependent.
"And they have come to realize that their freedom is inextricably bound to our freedom. We cannot walk alone."
-Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
All Flourishing is Mutual.
When One of Us Fails to be Free, We All Fail to be Free.
When the Chains of Oppression is Upon One of Us, the Chains of Oppression Ensnare All of Us.
Justice Is Not Created by Wrongdoing.
Justice Comes from Rising Above the Wrongdoing.
We must put Deposits into the Bank of Justice.
Those Deposits become Compounded Over Time.
Until, by Standing Continuously in Siblinghood and Justice, we become Unconquerable.
"Continue to work with the faith that unearned suffering is redemptive."
-Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Unearned Suffering is Redemptive.
That is what he said.
We Stand in Siblinghood and Justice.
We Continue to Build the Compound Interest from the Bank of Justice.
We Rise Above the Hatred Dealt to Us.
We Break the Chains of Oppression.
It All Occurs in Love.
By Moving Forward "In" that Love.
Today, I hear people saying how they have been Knocked Down.
How they have been Pushed Backward.
How they have been Wronged.
If you Cannot Fly, then Run.
If You Cannot Run, then Walk.
If You Cannot Walk, then Crawl.
But Always Continue Forward.
Move Forward in Siblinghood.
Move Forward in Righteousness.
Move Forward in Love.
Then Keep Moving Forward.
Percussus Resurgo (Stricken I Rise).
Invictus (Unconqerable).
Amor Fati (Loving Fate).
By Crawling.
By Walking.
By Running.
By Flying.
We Move Forward.
Until the Dream is Made Real.
