How To Get More Of Them

Whenever people talk about "Opportunity" you'll usually hear Two Tales...

Opportunities Do Not Exist.

Opportunities Are Everywhere.

How can we get Two Completely Opposite Perspectives on this?

Are they Everywhere?

Or Nowhere?

It Can't be Both...

Can It?

The Reality Of Opportunities

Well, here's the Reality about Opportunity...

Opportunities "Are" Everywhere.

However, they are Not Necessarily "Easy" to Get.

What do I mean?

Think about it like this...

Say You are the Designer of a Sports Brand.

You are looking for someone to Represent Your Brand.

Who are you going to Look For?

Michael Jordan?

Serena Williams?

Tom Brady?

Or are you going to Look for Someone at the Local Fitness Center?

Here is where we begin to See How "Both" Beliefs around Opportunities can be True.

When You Are The Best (or One of the Best at least), then "Everyone" wants You for their Opportunity.

You'll likely have "Too Many" Opportunities in that Situation.

But if You Are Not "Seen" as One of the Best (Regardless of if it is True)?

Crickets.

You'll Get "No" Opportunities.

The Secret Of Gaining Opportunities

See, Opportunities Exist Everywhere.

But those Providing Opportunities are "Looking" for Specific Things for those Opportunities.

If You Do Not Match those Things?

If You cannot "Show" Matches to those Things?

Then You Become Overlooked for those Opportunities.

What does this Mean?

If you want to Get More Opportunities in Life?

Find Out "What" Opportunity Givers are "Looking" For.

Now, here's the Differentiator.

Can you "Prove" that You Have what they are Looking For "Before" the Opportunity Becomes Available?

Let me give you an Example.

How I Gained My Most Recent Opportunity

Just last week, I was Handed an Opportunity that I'm "Really" Excited About (But can't "quite" announce yet).

Something that has been on my mind for a Few Years.

I had Not Started a "Search" to Make this a Reality Yet.

But I knew that if the Right Pieces came together that I would likely Jump at it.

So...

How Did I "Get" this Opportunity if I did not "Look" for it?

Why did "They" Come to Me?

Well, it had to do with some Work that I did for My Business...

Five Years Ago.

That's Right!

Where It Did “Not” Come From (But Where You Would Think It Would)

It wasn't from Any of the Nominations or Awards that I Received in the Past 2 Years (92 in Total).

It wasn't from My Daily Writing and Publishing which I began 2 Years Ago either (Nearly 750 Articles Now).

It Did Not have to do with my Social Media Presence.

It Did Not have to do with the Fact that I'm a #1 Creator on Multiple Platforms.

It Primarily had to do with a Relatively Small Set of Work that I did 5 Years Ago.

What That Work “Really” Was

Work that I, personally, had considered an Overall "Failed" Project.

The Work was Great, don't get me wrong...

However, the "Goals" of the Work did Not Achieve what I had Intended at the Time.

It had mainly to do with a Lack of Time that I had Available to me at that point in my Career.

But what did that Project Demonstrate?

A Proof of Concept.

That, with the Right Resources, something Incredible "Could" be Made.

Indeed, I have Kept "Paying" for that Work to Remain Available Online for 5 Years.

Despite Not "Receiving" Anything from it.

Why?

Because I "Knew" that it was Good.

Because I put a "Lot" of Great Work into It.

Because it "Demonstrated" Certain Traits and Strengths I Have that Would be Useful to "Show" in the Future.

Because it was a Strong Body of Work that "Proved" I Could Do It.

I did Not Know "Exactly" When it would Become Useful.

But I Knew.

How Long Will You Go?

How Long are you Willing to Bet on Yourself?

I was Betting on Myself and that Work for 5 Years.

I was Ready to Bet Longer on that Work.

Work that was Not Giving Me a Visible ROI.

In fact, it "Looked" like a Negative ROI.

I Moved Onto Other Projects that "Looked" More Profitable.

I put Focus on Other Areas of my Career.

But this is the Reality.

Sowing And Reaping For Opportunities

If you "Want" Opportunities, then you "Need" to Plant Seeds.

Sometimes, those Seeds Fail to Pay Off Immediately.

That is the Nature of Seeds.

There are times when a Seed is Planted, but You Must Give It Time to Grow.

Put Focus into Other Seeds.

Tend to Other Fruit in the Garden.

But you Must Continue to Water all the Seeds.

Then, sometimes, You Discover that one of your Seeds has turned into Something "Incredibly" Valuable.

But it will Never Happen Unless you Continue to Water It.

Keep Making Sure that it "Exists" in the World.

Sometimes You Have to Give Your Best Work and "Know" You'll Receive Nothing For It.

You Might have to "Sacrifice" for It.

But, if that Work Remains Visible?

If Those Who "Give" Opportunities Are Able to Come Across It?

They Might Offer You an Opportunity that you Secretly had been Hoping For.
