Why Leaders Completely Fail To Motivate Others So Frequently
A Key To Changing The Pace Toward Your Desired Goals
One of the things many Leaders Seek is to figure out how to Motivate Others.
There are Multiple Parties that Leaders want to Motivate.
Employees.
Teams.
Customers.
Stakeholders.
There are many different groups that, if Motivated, would be Extremely Advantageous to Leaders.
Yet, we Do Not see this Happen.
How do we Know?
Where Leaders Are Obviously Failing To Motivate
Just look at the Levels of Disengagement and Discontent that Exist in Today's Business World.
Anywhere between 50% and 90% of Employees want a New Job this Year.
What do you think is Happening while they are Seeking, or Wishing, for a New Job?
I can Tell You what is "Not" Happening.
These Employees are Not Giving their Best, but rather Only putting in the Minimum Required to Keep their Jobs.
They are Not coming up with Novel or Creative Solutions to Problems.
Their Talents are Not being Utilized Efficiently.
With this, these Employees are Not taking the Initiative and are simply "Waiting" to be Told what to do.
They are Not giving their Honest Thoughts about the Direction of the Organization or the Likelihood of Success with Projects.
It is Far more likely for them to say, "Of course, we Knew that would Never Work."
We also know that Customers are willing to Jump Ship as soon as the Next Legitimate Product/Service Pops Up.
Look at how many people in the States "Refused" to Return to Older Platforms when the "TikTok Ban" Occurred.
They decided they would Rather Learn a Completely New Language than "Go Back" to something they had Previously Escaped.
This is Not a Phenomenon that is Limited to Social Media.
There is a Reason that "Most" Companies are Acting in Panic around AI Services.
The Leaders of these Companies "Know" that they have Failed to Motivate Customers to "Stay" with them, and are at the Mercy of whatever New Platform or Service Wins Next.
We can Even See that Stakeholders are Not Motivated to Stay.
With the Recent Release of DeepSeek, many AI-Related Companies saw a Dramatic Decrease in their Value in the Markets.
Nividia just saw a $600 Billion Drop in its Value.
So, across the Board, we are Seeing Leaders Fail to Motivate Others.
But Why?
Why Leaders Are Failing To Motivate Others
Well, here's a Secret...
It is Impossible to Motivate Others.
No Person has the Power to Motivate Others.
This is Not how Motivation Works.
There are Two Major Problems that Leaders Face when it comes to Motivation.
The First is that Motivation is Not Something that can be "Given".
We do Not have a Bag of Motivation that we can simply Pass Out to Others like Santa Clause during Christmas.
Motivation is something that is Internal.
It is something that Humans "Create" for Themselves.
But here's the Other Problem...
Motivation is Not Reliable for Success.
All Motivation Comes and Goes.
There will be Days We Create It.
Then, there will be Days we Fail to Have "Any" Motivation.
The Reality is that we will have "Far" More Days Without Motivation.
So, a Leader who attempts to Rely on Motivation will Quickly Find they are Both Unable to "Give" Any and that Motivation is Rarely There When Needed.
What Is Even Worse For Leaders When It Comes To Motivation
What is Worse for Leaders is that even though they have No Power to Motivate...
What they "Do" Have is the Power to De-Motivate Others.
As we are Seeing, this is Fairly Simple to Accomplish.
Leaders "All" Over are De-Motivating Everyone in Sight.
So, what can a Leader do in the Face of this Problem?
There are Two Primary Things that Leaders can Do.
The Two Things Leaders “Can” Do Around Motivation
The first is that they Must Be "Exemplars" of Dedication.
People are Inspired by Exemplars, which can ignite Motivation within Themselves.
Dedication is something We "Can" Control.
But what must Leaders be Dedicated To?
Those they Lead.
Fully.
It Must be "Seen" and "Felt".
People are Not Stupid, and they Know when a Leader is just paying Lip Service to being Dedicated to them.
That is a "Very" Fast Way to De-Motivate People.
People want to Know that they have been Seen and Heard, and that Leaders are Doing "Everything" in their Power to be Dedicated to them.
It is Not about Perfection.
It is About Honest and Authentic Dedication.
The Other thing Leaders can do is Design an Environment where Others "Can" Create Motivation.
I call this Regenerative Legacy Design.
Though You may Not be able to "Give" Motivation, what "Is" Possible is to Set Up the Conditions under which Motivation Can Exist.
For this to happen, People must be Regenerated to their Best, and Cultivated into their Potential, so that they can Create an Impactful Legacy with their Work.
This is the kind of Environment where Motivation can be Created.
These are the Keys to Changing the Pace toward your Desired Goals.
